WILLIAM PIDSLEY

Born in ca 1738 - Died 1st July 1779

A son of John Pidsley, he was born ca 1738, and died 1st July 1779. By his wife Elizabeth, who was born c 1733, and died 12th January 1775, he had children:

1 Reverend Simon, born 12th October 1773, died 7th September 1821.
2 Mary
3 John, born c 1767, died 2nd April 1798.
4 William Battishill, privately baptized and received into church on 3rd March 1768.
5 Elizabeth, privately baptized and received into the church 18th September 1769.
6 Ann, baptized 13th May 1772.

A tombstone in the floor of the chancel of Colebrook Church has the following inscription:

Underneath are deposited the remains of
Elizabeth wife of Mr William Pidsley gent
who departed this life Jany 12th 1775 aged 42
Also of the aforesaid William Pidsley
who departed this life July ye 1st 1779 aged 41

Also of Mary daughter of
John Pidsley gent and Mary his wife
who departed this life Janry 23rd 1792 aged 6 months

Also of the aforesaid John Pidsley who
departed this life April ye 2nd 1798 aged 31
Mary Jacob died 6th Augst 1824 aged 63.
