glorious resurrection
the remains of Ensign James Richard Swinton
3rd Regiment of N Infantry
who died on his voyage from Cutch to the Presidency
5th November 1843 aged 22 years

Also the remains of his niece and nephew
Amelia Jane Jacob and Edward George Jacob
infant children of Major and Mrs Jacob of the
Bombay Artillery
who escaping the misery and pollution of this
sinful world, after briefly tasting the sorrows of
this vale of tears, entered into the joy of the Lord
their Redeemer, the former on the 24th Jan 1843 aged
6 months and the latter on 9th Feb 1844 aged 2 days.

In memory also of
Samuel Swinton Jacob

aged 5 1/2 months.

"Say, are they lost or saved?
If death's by sin, they sinned for they lie here.
If heaven's by works - in heaven they can't appear
Ah, reason now depraved!
Revere the Bible's sacred page, the knot's untied.
They died through Adam's sin, - they live for Jesus died".

The above Richard Swinton was ill with Maleria at Bhooj, in the province of Cutch, and went for a change of air to Bombay, but died on the voyage. He was the brother of Jane Swinton.
