JOHN JACOB RN

Born 28th March 1799 - Died 24th December 1811

 

 

He was a son of John Jacob of Guernsey. A 19th century manuscript in the Jacob MSS gives some information about him:

who met with a premature death in his 13th year while serving as a Midshipman on board HMS Hero of 74 guns, Captain Newman, Dec 24, 1811, when on their return home from the Baltic their Commander with the whole of the Officers and Crew perished in a storm off the coast of Holland. "The way is in the Sea and Thy Talk the Great Waters, and Thy footsteps are not known." PO LXXVII.19.

This tablet erected by his sorrowing parents was renewed by his surviving brothers
