LIEUTENANT-COLONEL RUPERT MONTAGUE JACOB MC KPM

A son of Colonel Herbert Bruce Jacob, he was born in 1886, and killed in Burma in 1943. He married Edith Anna, daughter of John Hoison and Eleanore Mary Jollye. She was born in 1881, and died in 1956. They had children:
1 Brigadier Anthony Le Grand Jacob, born in 1913, and died 24th December 1983..
2 Priscilla, born in 1919 and died in 1975. She married Dr K A Latter. They had two daughters and one son.
He served in the 130th King's Own Baluchis (Jacob's Rifles) at the time when the London Gazette of 12th March 1915 reports him being raised to the rank of Captain from that of Lieutenant. He won his M.C. fighting with his regiment during the First World War in East Africa. After the war he was seconded to the Indian Police and was awarded the King's Police Medal as Inspector General of Indian Police. On the outbreak of the Second World War he commanded a battalion and various other ad hoc forces in the defence of Burma against the Japanese. He was killed in action in 1942 in the defence of Rangoon, and is buried in Rangoon cemetery.
