PETER GUTHRIE GREY MC MBE
Born 9th January 1918 - Died 14th October 1965
A son of George Edward Grey, he was born 9th January 1918, and died 14th October 1965. On 29th November 1947, in London, he married Crystal Pamela Muriel Dodd, daughter of Roderick James Shuter Dodd. She was born 20th January 1925, and died 9th January 1991. They had children:
1 Hugh Guthrie, born 16th February 1949.
2 Jonathan Guthrie, born 23rd October 1951.
3 Toby Guthrie, born 25th September 1953.
4 Fiona Eve, born 10th February 1956.
He joined the army as a volunteer in September 1939, and was soon sent to India, where he passed the first few years of the war as ADC to the Governor of Bengal in Calcutta. He spent the second half of the war very differently in Burma, as an officer in the 8th Gurkha Rifles, earning an MC and MBE for his pains.
After the war Peter joined the Imperial Tobacco Company of India as an accountant. He became ill in 1962, was repatriated to Sussex and died of cancer in 1965, leaving Crystal to bring up 4 children, with generous financial assitance from her mother Muriel.
