He was Rector of Old Romney, in Kent. He married Anne, daughter of Reverend James Bond, on 17th March 1808. They had children.

1 Lydia Catherine, born 2nd August, baptized 6th September 1908 at Ashford and buried there 17th March 1823.
2 John, an infant, buried 20th October 1810 at Ashford.
3 Frances Jane, baptized 18th May 1813 at Ashford and buried there 26th May 1832..
4 John Andrew, baptized 21st July 1814 at Ashford, buried there 13th December 1815.
5 Anne, baptized 7th June or 18th August 1815 at Ashford.
6 William, baptized 17th October 1816 at Ashford, buried there 19th July 1817.
7 James, a surgeon, baptized 13th June 1818 at Ashford. He had issue.
8 Anne, baptized 11th May 1820 at Ashford. She married ----- Coates. They had issue.

He and his wife owned land copyhold land of Ashford manor 'on part of which stood a messuage long since taken down by John Nance', and which abutted on the west to land of the grammar school, and on the north to a messuage previously of Charles Stoddart and John James Bond. They sold this for £50 to Ephraim Hemmings Snoad on 24th July 1835; they had been admitted to this copyhold on 22nd April 1815.

On 28th March 1825 he bought for £300, on the surrender of Elizabeth Gold, widow, land with two dwellings abutting the churchyard south and land of his north This had previouly been occupied by Thomas Jacob and Peter Rabspon no relation.

He was a Fellow of Worcester College Oxford.
