A Lieutenant-Colonel in the Royal Artillery, he married Charlotte, a daughter of Captain Thomas Smart RN. They had children:

1 George, who died in 1827
2 Henry Smart, who died in 1827.
3 William Thomas, alive in 1838.
4 Charlotte Smart, who died as an infant.
5 Francis Haden, alive in 1838.
6 Charlotte Smart, who died in 1822, aged 10 months.
