REVEREND BRABAZON HALLOWES

Born 10th September 1819 - Died 1st September 1892

 

The son of Francis Hallowes and Mary Haffenden, he was born at Talyllyn on 10th September 1819. He married three times. His first wife was Jane Catherine Maria, youngest daughter of the Reverend Richard Coytmore Howard DD, rector of Llanrhiadr, Denbigh, by Dorothea Catherine Clough, daughter of the Reverend Thomas Clough, rector of Denbigh. They married at Llanfair, Carnavonshire, on 16th June 1852. She was born 2nd October 1824 and died at Cilcain Vicarage 12th Junr 1853 aged 28. With her he had one son:

1 Thomas Richard Francis Brabazon, born 18th May 1853.

His second wife was Elinor, the only daughter of Thomas Green JP of Wiltby and Athlington, Suffolk, by Georgina daughter of John Mordaunt. She was born in 1833 and died on 28th December 1862 at Cilcain vicarage aged 29. With her he had children:

1 Herbert Chaworth, MRCS, born 23rd June 1857, and died in Cairns, Queensland, Australia 15th August 1908.
w Mary Eleanor, born at Dyserth 14th November 1859, and died at Tenby 24th October 1942.

Lastly he married his first cousin Caroline Antonia, 4th daughter of Thomas Haffenden of Hanwell, Middlesex, his mother's brother, and his wife Mary Anderson (died in 1847). Caroline died at Glapwell 26th April 1883.. She was born in 1824 and died on 26th April 1883. With her he had no children.

Brabazon matriculated at Lincoln College, Oxford 2nd November 1837, Ba 1841, MA 1844. He was ordained Deacon in 1842 and priest 1843 (St Asaph). He was perpertual curate of St David's, Denbigh, 1843-1851; vicar of Cilcain, Flint, 1851-1867; vicar of Dyserth, Flint, 1867-1870, before succeeding his father as squire of Glapwell. He died at Hengwrtucha Llanfachraeth, Merioneth 1st September 1892. At his death he owned 2852 acres of land in Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Suffolk worth £3367 p.a., including Glapwell Colliery (leased in 1873).
