DEACON ALBERT ARMSTRONG ABBOTT

A son of Reverend Amos Abbott, he was born in Wilton, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, USA, on 6th October 1847. He married there on 8th September 1880 Abby Hawkins Foster, a daughter of Benjamin Tenny and Abigail (Howard) Foster, of Wilton; Benjamin was a descendant of Reginald Foster, who settled in Ipswich, Massachusetts in 1638. Abby was born in Wilton on 11th March 1848. Albert remained in the USA until 10 years of age, when he went with his parents, who were missionaries, to India; he returned in 1865, when he was 18, to Wilton, to enter Harvard University in the class of 1871. He then taught a year in Tennessee, farmed and raised stock in Steele City, Nebraska, between 1873 to 1883, when he became an employee of the Franklin, Benner Co Gas Fixture House, Minneapolis. He sold his interest in this company in 1889, and took charge of the plating department of the Roberts Manufacturing Co, St Paul, Minneapolis. From 1894, he was superintendent of the plating works of the fireproof Door Co of Minneapolis. He was a deacon in the Lyndall Congregational Church of Minneapolis. He was a clerk of the Society, trustee etc. His wife studied at Ipswich Academy, New Hampshire.
They had children:
1 May Ethel, born in Steele City, on 26th March 1882.
2 Bertha Abigail, born in Minneapolis on 2nd October 1884
3 Anstice Tenny, born in Minneapolis on 9th May 1886.
